The idler pulley on the Mercury 450R and 500R is a well-known failure point. The plastic body separates from the metal shaft receiver over time due to the constant heat cycles, or worse — the bearing fails entirely. When it goes, it can take the supercharger belt and alternator belt with it. Don't wait for that to happen offshore.
